In short

This is a free net worth tracker spreadsheet that works in Google Sheets, Excel and Apple Numbers. It lists ten kinds of assets and seven kinds of debt down the side and the twelve months across the top. You type each balance once a month and it works out total assets, total debts, net worth and the change from the month before, and a month you have not filled in stays blank instead of counting as zero. An Example tab shows a made-up year with a chart. There is no sign-up and no email.

Each month

How to use it in five minutes a month

Pick a day, such as the 1st, and do the same thing each month.

  • Type each account's balance in that month's column, in the yellow cells
  • Type debts as positive amounts: $18,900 owed on a student loan is 18900
  • Leave a row empty if it does not apply, and rename any row in column A
  • Home and car values are optional: whatever you choose, keep it the same each month

Totals, net worth and the change from last month fill in by themselves. To see how your figure compares with others your age, the Federal Reserve's 2025 figures are on our net worth by age page.

When an app is easier

A spreadsheet is free and completely yours. If typing the same balances every month gets old, NetWorth+ keeps the history and the chart for you, adds budgets and shared bills, and still never asks for a bank login.

Questions

Good to know

Is there a free net worth tracker for Google Sheets?
Yes. This template is free with no sign-up: download it, upload it to Google Drive and open it with Google Sheets.
Does it work in Excel and Numbers?
Yes. It is an Excel file, so it opens in Excel and Apple Numbers as it is.
Do I have to share my data?
No. The file lives on your computer or in your own Google Drive, and nothing you type is sent to us.
How do I chart my net worth?
The Example tab has a chart. In your own tracker, select the Net worth row and choose Insert, then Chart.
What if a month has no figures yet?
It stays blank, so a month you have not filled in is not counted as a net worth of zero.
Can I add more rows?
Yes. Insert new rows above the Other assets or Other debts row, so the totals include them.
